black ash pack baskets
with Justin Sutera

Thursday April 25-Sunday April 28, 2024

Come join Justin and seize this amazing opportunity to make your own pack basket and work with black ash before it’s too late (ash trees are rapidly declining with the emerald ash borer)!  We’ll spend the first two days learning about the tree, pounding and processing the log for splints. The second two days will be spent weaving the basket and making the straps. *If you are unable to attend all four days you can come for just the weekend but will be given with raw material (not planed or sanded).  You’ll leave with a beautiful, durable and functional basket, a basic understanding of weaving and a deep appreciation for the material and process.

Sliding Scale $300-400

wool felted rugs
with Brandon Huntone

Saturday June 1 10-5 & Sunday June 2 10-2, 2024

Come spend the weekend working with the fleece of a sheep from Brandon’s farm and experientially learn to transform raw wool into a beautiful felted rug.  This simple, chemical-free way to process wool directly from a sheep is a brilliant technique for making beautiful pieces of felt that resemble a sheep skin, with relatively low labor, energy and water inputs.

Sliding scale $200-300*

*The way we’re going to charge for this workshop is at a per project cost, not per person. A capable person on their own can expect to make ONE rug in the time frame of the workshop.  But if you’d like to come as a couple or family and work on one rug together the cost is the same.  Children are welcome if they are able to engage and/or self-entertain in a safe and respectful manner.
